1951 Ralph Branca Brooklyn Dodgers and Bobby Thomson New York Giants "The Shot Heard Around the World" Signed Photograph - JSA

It was October 3, 1951. With pennant hopes permeating the autumn air in midtown Manhattan, two men stood 60 feet, six inches apart. And with one swing, both men were rendered immortal -- one as a hero, the other as a perpetual victim -- as Bobby Thomson sent a Ralph Branca offering into the Polo Grounds' left field seats. The feat sent Thomson's New York Giants to the World Series, crushed Brooklyn finest, and came to be known as, "The shot heard 'round the world".

This lot brings Thomson and Branca together again. This time, Branca (left) seems to have the upper hand on Thomson (right) in this posed 3" x 5" picture. The single-matted, professionally framed piece includes both players signatures in black marker, and a personally inscribed note from Thomson (which is also signed in black pen).

With Thomson's recent passing, this item -- which pertains to one of the most memorable moments in sports history -- is all the more special. NM-MT condition. JSA auction letter included. 01690
