Pittsburgh Pirates Hall of Fame right fielder Roberto Clemente is featured in this lot of 46 photos which spans from early in his career to his tragic death attempting to aid earthquake victims in Nicaragua. Also pictured with Clemente in this lot are Warren Giles, Vada Pinson, Pie Traynor, Bowie Kuhn, Al Kaline, his widow Vera and Roberto Clemente Junior. Measurements range from 3.5" x 7.5" to 8" x 10". Photos contain various handwritten notations, affixed cutlines and date & photographer's stamps on their reverse. Boston Herald Archives Holograms. (M0664)

The original Boston Herald was founded in 1846 by a group of Boston printers jointly under the name of John A. French & Company. The paper was published as a single two-sided sheet, selling for one cent. This is an original photo, in many cases a Type 1 printed at the time of the event. File copies or type 2 photos are also found, and can be distinguished by the markings on the reverse.
