This ridiculously heavy cast iron phone case was installed in the new Memorial stadium upon it's completion in 1950. It was a security phone , one of several that were installed about the stadium. The black dial phone that now rests inside is dated 1970 on back which means it replaced the old 1950 phone that was in this case the year it was installed. It was originally green and had been repainted several times. It has since been stripped of all old paint and restored to it's original color. It comes with cert signed by Mike Gibbons and Maryland Stadium Authority attesting to its origin. The stadium, finally completed in 1950, would become known as Memorial Stadium, and for a time, Babe Ruth Stadium. One can display this beauty as is or you could put a modern phone in the case and make it usable as well. There could not have been many of these in the stadium making this a fairly scarce piece of memorabilia given the Baltimore sports history it was witness to.
