Hearn was a key member of the 1951 Giants's winning 17 games and helping them overcome a 13½-game mid-August deficit to the Brooklyn Dodgers to win the NL pennant. He defeated the Dodgers 3-1 in Game 1 of the NL pennant playoff, and pitched in the 1951 World Series, defeating the eventual champion New York Yankees 6-2 in his only start.
This hat is a stunning example of one of his game worn hats. It has the earliest style of McAuliffe tags in the rear inside band which is white leather which shows some age cracking. His uniform number 21 is written in faded black marker under the bill. The outside of the hat remains in near mint condition. It is tagged a size 7 1/8. Just a really nice example of a game worn hat that dates to both the 1951 and 1954 World Series seasons. Collection of MEARS staff. MEARS LOA.
