Featured in this lot of 45 photos are Babe Ruth and his wife Claire. Most of the photos in the lot come from the time period between the Babe's retirement from the National Pastime and his death in 1948. There are also a number of photos of Claire attending various functions held in her husband's honor after his earthly passing. Measurements range from 3.5" x 6.5" to 8" x 10". Photos contain various handwritten notations, affixed cutlines and date & photographer's stamps on their reverse. Boston Herald Archives Holograms. (M0549)

The original Boston Herald was founded in 1846 by a group of Boston printers jointly under the name of John A. French & Company. The paper was published as a single two-sided sheet, selling for one cent. This is an original photo, in many cases a Type 1 printed at the time of the event. File copies or type 2 photos are also found, and can be distinguished by the markings on the reverse.
