Lot #37:

1940 Bill Terry and Carl Hubbell New York Giants “St. Petersburg Times” Original 6 x 8 News Photo (“St. Petersburg” Hologram/MEARS LOA)

The Giants open spring training in Winter Haven, FL. Here, Bill Terry (right) chats with screwballing great Carl Hubbell. Reverse includes affixed cutline and Acme Newspictures photographer stamp.

The St. Petersburg Times traces its origin to the West Hillsborough Times, a weekly newspaper started in Duedin, Florida in 1884. This is an original photo, in many cases a Type 1 printed at the time of the event. File copies or type 2 photos are also found, and can be distinguished by the markings on the reverse.
