For the purpose of evaluation, MEARS inspected this 1939 circa Louisville Slugger game used bat. The "Jug" had a long professional career, spanning 13 years, mainly in the minor leagues, with one appearance in the big leagues with the Philadelphia Phillies. Bat dates to 1938-43 circa, and dates to a myriad of possibility of teams. During the label period, Joe Jug Kracher played for 1938 Thomasville of the Georgia Florida League, 1939 Philadelphia Phillies NL, 1939 Selma Southeastern League, 1940-41 Baltimore of the International League, 1942 Wilke Barre Eastern League. 1943-45 Military Service. The bat measures 35" and currently weighs 34.5 ounces. No model number is present as it predates the practice. Bat has a regular knob, round barrel, and is manufactured from professional grade northern white ash. ½ of the knob is missing and there is a chip on the adjacent side of the knob. The handle contains a six-inch H-handle crack that has been crudely repaired with 8 nails. 12 additional indentations are found throughout the bats' surfaces. The factory stampings of the centerbrand, Powerized logo, and and player facsimile barrel signature are all deep and free of blemishes. LOA/MEARS/Troy R. Kinunen. Bat was awarded the base grade of 5 points for bat being consistent with period production characteristics, 3 points for heavy game wear, and minus four points for the condition of the bat.
