1932 Josh Gibson (Modern Print) Pittsburgh Crawfords "The Sporting News Collection Archives" Original Type 1 8" x 10" Photo (Sporting News Collection Hologram/MEARS Photo LOA)

In this photo we find the "Big Five" of the 1932 Pittsburgh Crawfords of the Negro Leagues, four of whom would go on the gain enshrinement in the baseball Hall of Fame. The biggest of the five is undoubtedly catcher Josh Gibson, who is widely considered to be the best position player in the history of the Negro Leagues and possibly the greatest catcher of all time. On the left is manager Oscar Charleston who many considered to be one of the greatest outfielders of all time during his playing career, in 53 exhibition games against major league players he hit .318 with 11 HR. Seated along with Gibson are fellow Hall of Famers Judy Johnson & Jud Wilson, as well as teammate Rap Dixon.
