Murderer's Row is still regarded as the finest collection of baseball talent assembled on the diamond.
Anyone associated with the squad has become a coveted signature in the collecting industry. Of course Lou Gehrig and Babe Ruth steal the show and Urban Shocker's autograph is never an easy find. But one of the toughest conquests is that of Tony Lazzeri. Because he died in 1942, and was posthumously inducted into Cooperstown, there are severe shortage of his signatures for the heavy demand.
From the 1930 season is this Yankees payroll check made out to Lazzeri. What makes it a sure keeper is that it is also signed by club president, and fellow Hall of Famer, Ed Barrow. Owner Jacob Ruppert also chipped in with his signature. Talk about a triumvirate.
Lazzeri endorsed the reverse in black ink. A few bank stamping holes have taken over his first name. There is a fold mark, but it does not impede the signature.
