In Boston, Lewis belonged to the outfield trio which included Tris Speaker (CF) and Harry Hooper (RF) and is considered perhaps the best ever in fielding skill. He played for the Red Sox from 1910-1917. Before that, he played for the Oakland Oaks in 1908-09 and with the Yankees in 1919-20. He went to the Senators in 1921. This bat dates from his stint in the PCL, first with the Salt Lake City Bees from 1921-24 and then with the Portland Beavers in 1925. In 1926-27, he played for Jersey City, Mobile and the Portland Eskimos but it was his glory years with the Red Sox that he is best remembered. During his tenure in Boston out in left field, the ten-foot-high mound that formed an incline in front of the left field wall, now known as the Green Monster was nicknamed "Duffy's Cliff".
This is only the second Lewis bat ever examined by MEARS.
