Grover came up as a catcher with the Giants in 1911 under John McGraw where he played through 1913. He jumped to the new outlaw Federal League for the 1914-15 seasons playing for the St. Louis Terriers. When the league folded after the 1915 season, Grover went to the Browns from 1916-17 before returning to the Giants in 1924 where he stayed through 1926. He played the next two seasons with the Red Sox and Indians. He is probably best remembered today as an umpire. This bat dates to his playing days of the 1920's.
