Ty Cobb was the greatest hitter of all time, with a slew of batting records to his credit. For this lot we present a fresh to the hobby Ty Cobb bat. The bat was professional examined by the staff of MEARs, our findings:

Dating (1921-28): Per the MEARS Official center brand guide, the manufacturing is consistent with the 1921-1928 era. During that time, Cobb played for the Detroit Tigers from 1921-26, before finishing up as a player manager from 1927-1928 with the Philadelphia Athletics.

Length 35”: Measuring 35” in length, the bat measures at a length acceptable for Ty Cobb to have used during the era.

Weight 35.5 ounces: Currently weighing 35.5 ounces, the bat weighs at an acceptable range for bats used by Cobb.

Game use: Bat exhibits heavy game use, with ball marks, grain swelling, and slight deadwood. Multiple cleat marks are scattered throughout the surface of the bat, and are commonly associated as a Ty Cobb player trait. Finally, although no longer present, the handle has what appears to be the outline of tape. Ty Cobb was often photographed using taped handled bats during his career and this is a very desirable trait.

A fresh to the hobby Ty Cobb professional model game used bat exhibiting the cleat marks and taped handle (outline), two very desirable Cobb personal game use traits.

Final Grade: A base grade of 5 points was assigned for bat being consistent with respect to weight, model, centerbrand, and approximate length of 1920s Cobb bats, 3 points for heavy game use / cleat marks, minus 1 point for missing handle tape and discoloration in a small area left of the center brand.
