Most photos measure 8" x 10". World Cup Soccer to Olympic Track and Field to the NBA and MLB, this lot has everything to satisfy your sports sweet tooth. Many photos depict baseball executives and owners at meetings, baseball players during games, and NBA standouts while the tennis, boxing, soccer and track and field photos represent a small minority. Also included in the collection are photographs of video cameras and how they have evolved to benefit sports.

Though the lot includes several sports, baseball and basketball are the primary focuses. For this reason, the Hall of Fame players of these two sports will be mentioned. Baseball players/executives/managers included in the collection are Hank Greenberg, Will Harridge, Jacob Ruppert, Ted Williams, Frankie Frisch, Nap Lajoie, Satchel Paige, Christy Mathewson, and several others. The NBA players include Patrick Ewing, Larry Bird, "Dr." Julius Irving, Kevin McHale, Lou Carnesecca, Bill Walton, Scottie Pippen, and many more.

A few interesting photographs both deal with the NFL, and coincidentally are the only two NFL related photographs in the collection. First, the 1973 NFL Players Association Awards are shown as Buddy Hacket clowns around with Cloris Leachman while the two present an award. Second, Ernie Holmes of the Pittsburgh Steelers is taken into custody after it was discovered that he was the I-76 sniper of Salem, Oregon.

On the Reverse: Photographers stamps, affixed newspaper clippings, affixed descriptions, hand written descriptions, editor's markings, dated stamps, affixed negatives, The Sporting News stamps, SPORT magazine stamps, Denver Post holograms, Chicago Sun-Times holograms, Sporting News Collection holograms. (C2310)

These images originated directly from the archives of one of four periodicals: "The Sporting News", "Chicago Sun-Times", "Denver Post", or "SPORT Magazine" and were intended for use in their pages. Designated as a first generation photos (Type A), these images were developed directly from the original photographers negative within approximately one to five years of the depicted person/event. In some instances, usually when a date stamp is present, the photograph was developed within a year or even days of the listed event. Photographers included in the collection include Charles Conlon, George Burke, George Brace, William C. Greene, Alex P. Silverberg, and George Dorrill. Some are identified; many are not but were provided by these world class photographers. Unlike standard wire photos, these images were often hand developed by the photographer sent to the respective periodical. Therefore, the result is an actual first generation photographer's print -again, not be confused with the more commonly found wire photo image. First major collection to enter the market of exclusive Generation 1 Photos.

News service photos are also included, and in those instances, are identified as such by their respective stampings. Acme Wire Photo, Associated Press, International News, and United Press have provided images to the archives. Reverse images are included for identification purposes. As part of the production process for the newspaper/magazine, images may show production notes, photographer's stamps, date codes, and other markings associated with the production of the publication. In all cases, each selected image is of superior quality, subject matter, clarity, contrast and condition. Each image was archived by the news service and includes the respective hologram/stamp, assuring its origin and provenance. Additional MEARS LOA included with each lot.
