The purpose of the mushroom knob was to give a large area to prevent the slipping of the bat from the hand. The semi mushroom proved more popular as it gave an added ridge to the bottom of the mushroom for grip and security and lightened the weight of the bat as well. This example is a superb relic of the early days of twentieth century baseball. The famous Lucky Dog logo looks like it did the day it left the factory and is stamped with the model number 50. The bat has seen some use but remains uncracked with a few marks on end of barrel and a deep patina and finish. The bat measures 33 3/4" and weighs 39 oz so this was no childs toy. A super example of this rare style.
