In addition to being a British Chief Commissioner in British-controlled regions of India in the 19th century, Sir Richard Temple was also an amateur anthropologist and an author with numerous books to his credit.

In December of 1882, Temple scribed a letter to a friend in London. In summation, the letter informs the recipient that, with the letter, comes a copy of Temple's book "India in 1880" as well as his warmest regards and gratitude. The author and political figure has signed the bottom of this handwritten correspondence with blue pen.

The item is in exceptional standing, especially when factoring its age. A piece of torn paper is affixed to the reverse side of the document. A1534
