The Presidency of James Garfield was a short, but unforgettable one. Just weeks into his term, the 20th leader of the United States was shot by an assassin en route to a speaking arrangement at his alma matter, Williams College in July of 1881. On September 19, 1881 - after just 200 days in office - Garfield died as a result of the injuries sustained some 10 weeks prior.

This lot presents a funeral cabinet card from Garfield's 1881 memorial. Measuring approximately 4.25" x 6.5" in size, this item is in outstanding condition, which is especially amazing considering its age. A1542
