Baseball is intertwined into the our nation's history more than any other sport. In 1871 the Chicago White Stockings and New York Mutuals met for an afternoon contest.
This scorecard was used for that game. What makes this noteworthy is the game, played in July of 1871, was played a mere months before the great Chicago Fire which nearly destroyed the city. Because of the devastating fire, Chicago's squad disbanded before rejoining a few years later.
Unscored is the 3 1/2" x 4" scorecard from the tilt. Both lineups are revealed as are the standings until July 23, 1871. Minor staining is visible on this EX offering.
