On January 2nd, 2016, MEARS Auctions had the distinction of selling the hobby’s World Record setting 1960-1961 Green Bay Packers 14” Promotional Nodder, “The County Stadium Bobble Head Doll”

Once the dust settled and the final hammer dropped, a new World Record price for a Packers 14” Promotional Nodder was set, $36,404.

We know that Milwaukee loves their Packers, but nobody is more loyal that the Green & Gold cheese heads native to Green Bay. Giving the Milwaukee nodder a run for its money, we are proud to announce we are offering:

“1960-1961 Green Bay Packers 14” Promotional Nodder “The Lambeau Field Bobble Head Doll”

Like a gargoyle perched high upon the most prominent building in town, this nodder was a resident of Green Bay and was originally displayed in the first Lambeau Field Pro Shop, a small souvenir stand within the confines of the Stadium during the 1960s. With its massive 14” size, it was designed to attract attention to its inferior 7” brethren.

To document the fact, if you note, there are several names, phone numbers, and addresses written on the nodder’s foot. These scripting’s served as notations for interested collectors who asked for the nodder once it was no longer in service. The store staff simply noted those interested parties directly onto the nodder itself. The writing serves as homage to those unlucky fans that were not persistent enough to obtain the prize, but document the fact of the high level of interest in this behemoth store display, even way back then.

Our consignor was the lucky boy who was persistent enough to be given the nodder. At some point during the mid-1960, the Lambeau Field Pro Shop relented and removed the 14” nodder from its display and simply gave it to our consignor. He has kept it in his collection ever since. As you will also see in our auction, he loved nodders and purchased 100’s of more throughout the years, and they are included in this sale.

Grading excellent to near mint, you will note how the overall paint remains almost flawless, maintaining its original gloss, luster, brilliance, and shine. The helmet decals are firmly in place, with sight wear to the very front of the helmet decal. A small, almost irrelevant fleck can be found on the left helmet decal.

The face, with rosy cheeks, baby blue eyes, red smile, and brown chinstrap remain in near mint condition. The green paint of the shirt, yellow pants, football, shoes, and rest of the figure are free from any noticeable flaws.

Basically near mint, the sole exception is the small crack on the left side of the neck. Very minor, it is barely noticeable when displayed. These minor signs of wear are a testament to the originality of the nodder and its paint, and document the fact it is free from any restoration. The nodder is in the exact same condition as it was prominently perched at the Pro Shop. I can only imagine it bobbing in approval of the victories overseen by the great Vince Lombardi as he led Bart Starr, Paul Hornung, Ray Nitschke, Fuzzy Thurston, Jerry Kramer, Jim Taylor, and the rest of the squad on the sacred turf of Lambeau Field. This lot will be accompanying by a LOA from MEARS Auctions documenting the provenance, condition, and originality of the “Lambeau Field Nodder”. (95W0386)
