Henry Gillo had two claims to fame - he played in the same backfield as Jim Thorpe and also scored the most points in the NFL in 1922 (57 points).
For Gillo's athletic achievements at Colgate University he was awarded these two football charms and pocket knife. Our consignor consulted with a jeweler and the two football charms are made of 10k gold ($300 total gold for both footballs). Now this doesn't take into affect the collector value at all.
The 1919 football has the following engraved: "Colgate 7 Princeton 0", "Colgate 14 Brown 0" and "H.C. Gillo Full Back" along with the year showing.
1916's gold football includes: "Colgate 28 Brown 0", "Colgate 15 Syracuse 0" and ".C. Gillo F.B."
"H.C.G." (Gillo's initials) are engraved on the pocketknife.
We have also included one of Gillo's athletic letterman's awards (1915) for added provenance. Each of the items hales from Gillo's estate.
