A sportscaster and professional baseball first baseman who played for the New York and San Francisco Giants (1956, 1958), St. Louis Cardinals (1959-65, 1969) and Philadelphia Phillies (1966-68). Bill White went on to serve as president of the National League from 1989 to 1994.
As a minor-leaguer, White was just the second black player to ever play for a Carolina League team - the Danville Leafs (1953).
Offered is a signature model Bill White M159 bat that measures 35.5 inches and weighs 32 oz. It has his faded uniform number 10 in red on the barrel end with green rack marks. The bat exhibits moderate game use with swelling on the hitting surface with cleat marks and remains uncracked. White was playing for the Phillies from 1966-68 wearing number 10 and the bat is picture perfect. He ordered M159 bats twice: 4/22/66, 35.5 inch, 31 oz., 6 total; and 5/11/66, same specs, 12 total (likely -- the copy cuts off, but it's probably 12). So, likely 18 of those bats were issued total, and 1966 only. Bill has several orders where he requested to have just 12 or 10 branded on the barrel.
