During the height of the Golden Age of Comics, 1941, Ken Bald worked at Fawcett Comics where he worked on superheroes such as Captain Marvel, Captain Midnght, Bulletman, and Captain Midnight. He also rendered meticulous work for Street & Smith on both Mandrake the Magician and Doc Savage.

Returning from WWII as a decorated Captain in 1946, Bald met Stan Lee, who recruited his art talents to Timely Comics. Timely would eventually become the world-renowned Marvel Comics. Bald’s illustration credits include Captain America, The Human Torch, Namor the Sub-Mariner, Blonde Phantom, Sun Girl, Miss America, Millie the Model, and Namora, which he co-created with Lee. Ken holds the Guinness Book of World Records for “Oldest Artist To Illustrate A Comic Book Cover”.

Allen Bellman was born in Manhattan and studied at the High School of Industrial Arts where he eventually became a staff artist at Timely during the Golden Age of comics. While still a teenager, I did the backgrounds for Syd Shores' Captain America in 1942, and eventually worked on titles such as: The Patriot, The Destroyer, The Human Torch, Jap Buster Johnson and Jet Dixon of the Space Squadron, All Winners Comics, Marvel Mystery, Sub Mariner Comics, Young Allies and so much more. A true ambassador of the Golden Age of Comic, Bellman proudly proclaims, “Timely/Marvel “I was there!”

This exclusive image features the 1941 issue #71 of the Captain America comic book. This is the only collaboration that Ken Bald (Penciler) and Allen Bellman (Inker) worked on together. Each artist has signed this full color 11x17 gloss archival stock paper print in near mint blue sharpie marker. Ken Bald signed these from his New Jersey home in January 2017. Allen Bellman completed the signing from his Florida home in February 2017. Print has been authenticated by the professional staff of JSA autograph authenticators and their official company hologram and matching certificate of authenticity card accompanying this piece. Their unique hologram number is maintained at the JSA website which validates the items authenticity.
