The New York Yankees have a long history of honoring their fallen with a black armband on the left sleeve of their jerseys, and when Mickey Mantle passed away on August 13th, 1995 it was no different as the Bronx Bombers would emerge from the dugout at Fenway Park the following day with black armbands freshly stitched to their left sleeves in memoriam of the Mick. Mantle's number 7 would subsequently be added above the armband and the Yankees would wear this tribute through the close of the season.
Offered here is the gray knit road jersey which was donned by right fielder and fiery fan favorite Paul "The Warrior" O'Neill during the aforementioned season. A Russell Athletic MLB Authentic Diamond Collection size 48 tag is sewn to the tail along with a box tag reading "O'Neill - 95" and a flag tag noting 1" extra sleeve length. The tagging on the jersey is consistent with a 1995 Pat Kelly road jersey in the MEARS database and size 48 would be considered appropriate for O'Neill at that point in his career. "New York" is sewn to the front of the jersey in navy on white double tackle twill while number 21 is sewn to the reverse in the same manner. Mickey Mantle black memorial armband and number 7 sewn to left sleeve. MEARS A10.
