I know, this one might bring some controversy. Our consignor, a former Mets clubhouse guy and life long collector was the sole consignor of the Mets / Shea stadium items in this month's sale. While interviewing him for this sale, his wife told me the story that how when they first started dating and she was cleaning their apartment, she would fine signed baseball hidden under the couch and in many other spots of their new love nest. Collectors will understand the thought behind this lot. As you will find for this month's auction, our consignor saved empty champagne bottles, locker room signs, line up cards, and even Barry Bond's finger nail clippings. With the homerun boom of 1998 and 1999, McGwire, Sosa, and Bonds obtained a god like following. Their memorabilia sales were red hot. Collectors wanted it all. Our consignor watched as Bonds clipped his finger nails in his locker at Shea, and when Bonds took the field, the consignor scooped them up, placed them in this ticket envelope, and labeled them. Not sure if PSA will slab these or not (comment offered tongue and cheek). LOA former Mets employee.
