Dating (1960): Per the intersection of the earliest version of this centerbrand (1960 World Series bats), model, length and weight, we date this bat to 1960.
Length (35”): Mantle ordered 35” bats during the 1960 season.
Weight 30.5 ounces: Bat currently weighs 30 ounces. Mantle’s personal bat records lists him as ordering bats weighing 34 ounces during the 1960 season. This bat’s current weight is within an acceptable tolerance of the factory records.
Model (K55): Mantle did indeed order K55 bats during the 1960 season.
Game Use: Bat is uncracked, and exhibits moderate use. Light ball marks are found on both sides of the barrel. A light coat of pinetar and scoring is found on the lower handle, contributing to the moderate use assessment. The PSA letter states the light use “cannot be confirmed”. MEARS found no specific reason to reject this bat as being used by Mantle, and simple verifies the use as moderate with a notation of the pinetar and scored handle, both traits that have been noted as being found on higher grade Mantle bats.
Final Grade: Base grade of 5 points for bat being consistent with his 1960, K55, 35” bat. Moderate use, +2. Final grade, MEARS A7.
