Items owned by the most legendary coach of all item, Knute Rockne, are non-existant in the collecting world. For the December 2012 MEARS Auction, we are very proud to offer a very ornate and personal piece owned by Rockne himself.
Rockne was known for turning boys in fine young men. His efforts did not go un-noticed, as the undergraduate class from 1924 pitched in and purchased this decorative pocket watch as a lasting token of their appreciation.
Once opened, it's inscription reads "To Coach Knute K. Rockne from The Undergraduate Body Notre Dame, June 14th 1924." The engraving is done in period style. Circling the inscription, factory stamped is, "South Bend, Chesterfield". Stamped inside the cover is, "Solidarity, White Gold, 14K, 533960" . Watch is in working order and remains in excellent to near mint conditon, with only slight handling wear to the outer portions. Estimated Value: $20,000+ (A0216)
