Luis Tiant was a Cuban-born pitcher and a very popular Boston Red Sox. Dating to his time with the Twins and Indians, this Rawlings XFG-1 Rawlings glove was used right before Tiant joined the Red Sox, and may have been carried over during his first season at Fenway Park.
Noted glove expert Joe Philips and Rawlings glove designer Bob Clevenhagen noted that the “Rawlings XFG-1 glove could only be a professional model as no store model gloves bearing Tiant’s stamped facsimile signature were ever manufactuered. The original opinion of the two was chronicled as, “Photographic documentation likewise finds identical gloves on Tiant's left hand. Fielder's gloves are typically the toughest of all equipment for collectors, as most players tend to use only one per season, and often for multiple seasons.”
Glove shows heavy game wear, and appears to have been a favorite of Tiant. LOA MEARS Auctions
