The Pittsburgh Steelers are notorious for protecting their game worn treasures. Out of all of the NFL teams, the Steelers are by far the hardest to secure game worn items from.
From the 1960s is this game worn Steelers helmet. Twelve point suspension (size "7 1/8") is found on the inside and decent wear is exhibited with numerous scratches and surface abrasions on the plastic shell. A Steelers decal is affixed on the right side with minor chipping. This practice is unique to the Steelers as they still are the only NFL team to only have a decal on one side of their helmet. A Riddell sticker is still apparent on the inside (partially disengaged) with "F 68" visible. The inner rubber doughnut is missing one side.
"33" is written on one inner ear hole while the opposite side has an inventory number. According to our consignor, this helmet was shown to a former Steelers equipment staffer and given a thumb's up.
A raised yellow stripe runs from front to back. The original leather jaw pads are firmly in-place on the inside.
Overall, a quality Steelers representation, which may be linked to the start of the Chuck Noll era.
