Earl Smith was a catcher who came up in the major leagues in 1919 with the Giants where he played until 1923. He was with the Braves (1923-24), then the Pirates from 1924-28 and finished with the Cards in 1928-30. Earl caught for three world series teams in five series including the 1921 and 1922 Giants, 1925 and 1927 Pirates and finally the 1928 St. Louis Cardinals.
Offered is a scarce signature hand turned model Spalding 200 Ball & Diamond series gamer. It was used and returned to H&B as evidenced by the side writing but it is no longer readable. The bat has perfect markings and remains of a shipping label and exhibits heavy game use on both sides. There is a small 1" handle crack with some slight grain separation on back of the barrel.
Grade: A7.5
