Blue alternate Chicago Cubs jersey (#30) dates to the Joe Smith's 2016 curse breaking World Series Championship season based on the supplemental placket tagging. The crafty side-armed reliever (now with the Astros) was brought over to the Cubs to provide strength in the middle relief role. Smith’s successful outings that season (compiling an ERA of 2.51) earned him a spot on the Cubs’ World Series roster. Based on the jersey’s hologram, the jersey was apparently sent to the Cubs’ Spring Training facility in early 2017, but was not re-issued, as Smith signed a deal with the Toronto Blue Jays in early February, and his name and number still remains anchored to the back of the jersey. The Cubs wore jerseys matching this style for four of Smith's 16 appearance with the club in 2016. For those compiling a World Championship Cubs jersey collection, or even attempting to secure an authentic example of a Cubs game-used jersey from that historic season, 2016 Smith gamers were almost never available for public sale, and thus, are significantly more difficult to acquire than the most players from that history-making squad. MLB hologram #JB98013. (16R0403)
