Group of two vintage Chicago Cubs pennants. Offered is a rare 36" oversized Chicago Cubs pennants dating to circa 1916. The design of the bear is nearly identical to the logo found on the team’s 1916 uniform. Pennant is constructed of burgundy felt, which was used by the Cubs almost exclusively for their early pennants, with "Chicago" screened adjacent to a realistic bear depiction. The realistic style bear is a full broadside view with his head facing to the right. The detail of the fur, claws, teeth, nose, eyes, and tongue are produced in painstaking detail. Pennant remains in very good to excellent condition with some discoloration of the lettering in the team name and above the top of the Bear’s back. The second pennant was issued later and measures 29” and is sewn on “CHICAGO” lettering.
