Stan Lee is an American comic book creator who started his career with Timely Comics and the force behind Marvel. With co-creators Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko, Lee brought to life Spiderman, Hulk, Fantastic Four, Iron Man, Thor, and the X Men, and many other fictional characters, introducing complex, naturalistic characters and a thoroughly shared universe into superhero comic books. Lee was inducted into the comic book industry’s Will Eisner Award Hall of Fame in 1994 and the Jack Kirby Hall of Fame in 1995. Lee is also known for his catch phrase, “Excelsior!” which is Latin for onward and upward.
