This helmet is fresh to the hobby and one of the finest known examples of a Robin Yount game worn helmet. MEARS Auction president Troy R. Kinunen has been aware of this helmet for the better part of 20+ years and was present for it’s introduction to the hobby. The helmet was originally owned by a Milwaukee area collector who had at the time assembled the largest Yount collection in the United States. The helmet was sold to a long time Milwaukee area dealer before being offered to MEARS Auctions.
The helmet is manufactured by the American Baseball Cap Company. This helmet has a series of unique features. On the reverse, Yount’s number “19” appears in yellow numbering, a variation from the previous practice of using white numbering. To the right is the standard ABC logo. To the right of the ABC logo is the US/Canada flag decal, a feature unique to 1991. Review of the decals reveal they are all original, and show even, consistent wear. The rest of the helmet exhibits even, heavy game wear. Yount has signed the helmet, “Robin Yount” in black sharpie on the left side.
