John Allen Hannah (born April 4, 1951), nicknamed "Hog", played left guard for the New England Patriots. Standing 6’2”, weighing 265 pounds and hailing from the University of Alabama, Hannah was dubbed by Sports Illustrated as the Best Offensive Lineman of All Time.

This shirt was worn by Hannah during his final season in professional football, 1985 which cultivated in a Super Bowl appearance. MEARS determined the dating due to the style of the Sand Knit tag which was introduced in 1985 and the lack of sleeve stripes.

The heavy red durene body shell has a shoulder yoke that passes through the meted “v” neck collar. “White/blue/white” stripes are on each shoulder. Shortened sleeves with a factory hem, full inset side panels, and straight cut tail finish the body shell. “HANNAH” appears on plate on back.

Blue on white serif “73” is found on front and back, and each shoulder. The style has been confirmed as being worn by Hannah during the 1985 season with the exception of the sleeve length. One contemporary photo shows the sleeves with the stripes. They have been cut and hemmed. Although we could not find a match due to the limited number of games available to review. MEARS feels the cut sleeve does not affect the authenticity of this shirt.

The body shell shows moderate overall wear with light scuffing to the numerals. A heavy area of repair is found on the right sleeve.

At some point, the 1984 Patriots patch was applied to the front of the shirt. It is our consignors believe that this was done serve as a display. MEARS has determined that the style of the Sand Knit tag was introduced in 1985, thus dating the shirt to 1985 which was issued without the patch. The patch was professionally removed to restore the shirt back to its 1985 condition. The outline of the circular patch can still be seen.

Final Grade (MEARS A9): Based on the tagging, size, style, and game wear of the shirt, 10 base points were assigned to this shirt, with one point being deducted for the patch which has been removed.
