After being called up to the big leagues during 1972, upon his return to his home in Dayton, OH, Schmidt gifted his 1972 Phillies cap to his little league coach at the end of the season. Therefore, this is the first cap he wore in the major leagues. Obtained directly from his little league coach along with a series of scorebooks featuring Schmidt and his very first Phillies equipment bag. Cap is signed inside with a faded inscription, “Good Luck Craig, Mike Schmidt”. He has since resigned the cap in black marker on the brim. Inside bears the Wilson manufactured tag, and stamped size 7 3/8. Moderate wear.
