For the 1956 season, the Boys of Summer again won the National League pennant, only to lose the World Series to the New York Yankees.

This bat originated directly from the collection of Carl Erskine. For the 1956 World Series, Erskine ordered a 35”, 31.6 ounce bat. Stamped on the barrel is, “WORLD SERIES, ERSKINE, BROOKLYN DODGERS 1956”.

Bat exhibits light but definitive game use in the form of 5 distinct ball marks, a few scattered cleat marks, and bat rack marks. The use is consistent with Erskine’s one World Series plate appearance.

Accompanying the bat is a letter signed by Erskine stating the bat was used during the 1956 World Series.

Final Grade MEARS A10: Base grade 5 points for bat matching factor records, 3 points for appropriate World Series use, 2 points for provenance.
