We are excited to offer this rare lot which is a fresh to the hobby discovery and originates from the great grandson of Jake Daubert.

Daubert was recognized throughout his career for his performances on the field. He won the 1913 and 1914 National League batting titles, as well as the 1913 Chalmers Award. Between 1911 and 1919, The Baseball Magazine named him to their All-American team seven times. Baseball historian William C. Kashatus observed that Daubert was "a steady .300 hitter for 10 years of the Deadball Era", who "never fielded below the .989 mark" during the same period.

With a career spanning from 1910-1924, Jake Daubert had the opportunity to take home several game worn jerseys that he wore while playing for the Dodgers and Reds. Mrs. Daubert and several other player wives made it a weekly routine to meet and have a “sewing bee”. Looking for a unique project, Mrs. Daubert decided to take those old uniforms laying around and turn them into a piece of early baseball folkart.

Upon examination, the square pattern is consistent with his 1916-1917 jerseys, and the other pinstriped designs were found on the shirts he wore for both the Dodgers and Reds. The quilt measures 60”x72” and remains in excellent condition. Sourced direct from Jake’s great grandson David Heimbach and a letter from him will accompany this lot. (07I0182)
